Have tried recovering 2 separate macintosh computers, on 10.4 and 10.5 using version 3.5.
On both efforts, the directory trees were viewable on the drive, but not mountable.
Stellar Phoenix quick recovery ran for many hours, recovering all of the files, only to have every file corrupt.
What good is it to have 55Gb of corrupt files?

I am working with Tech Support now, They had NO advice, just we’ll email you a form to fill out.

Why doesn’t someone make a prduct that is conductive without interuption — it is obvious that the IPhone needs it ( ie. with all the games that could be used )

I also called ProClip to complain and they gave me the same story as Beth: only a one year warranty, nobody else has had problems (guess THAT’S not true) nothing they can do, etc.

From the great reviews and the sturdy appearance I expected the mount to last much longer. But wasn’t the case and I would caution others from making that assumption. Especially if you remove your GPS from the mount frequently (as you should to prevent theft) your ProClip mount may have to be replaced well before your car does.

We used to have Amiga users’ group meetings at the library–nice and cool, if nothing else.

Excellent review and I will look for these. The only reason is that I wouldn’t get this product is if I’m unable to get a real custom fit for the ear buds. You wrote, “The Radius Atomic Bass fits well into my ear and doesn�t slip out like the standard earbuds. The plastic covers come in three different sizes to help insure a custom fit and the earbuds are angled to fit deeper in the ear canal.” I had impressions of my ears taken for my iPod ear buds and they of course fit perfectly since it’s MY ear. I will contact the company that I used (Earsound Customs) for my iPod ear bud attachments to see if they can help me with this product. I would recommend anyone putting something in their ear to seek out a true custom fit. Once you experience it you will never go back to “three different sizes.” Hope this helps.

On the Apple TV browser hack: The good news is that something easier is coming, the bad news is that your experience was just about the same as mine. When I wrote that hack it worked exactly as written. When I tried to follow the instructions from the book after updating my Apple TV to the latest version (after the book came out) the instructions no longer worked.

The problem seems to be that the patchstick program had changed. When i used the old patchstick program it worked but not with the new one. It is hard to write this kind of stuff when everything is in flux. On of the mistakes I made in the book was not stressing that enough. A “if this doesn’t work try the latest instructions at blah blah” or perhaps explaining what is going on in greater depth.

There is a lag between the video and audio on all channels (with a top of the line smoking fast mac book pro), the reception via antenna (the best ones recommended by Elgato themselves) is terrible and even the cable channels have terrible pictures. It is not really possible to trouble shoot such issues via email. Either stick to your TV or buy something else

We added the ability to limit the amount of data you sync with Google in a recent update of BusySync. You’ll find it in BusySync > Google > Settings > Don’t publish events older than [x months]. This was added to solve the problem you and some others experienced when trying to sync very large calendars to Google. I hope you like it. :)

@Jessika, Firewire is an alternative to USB that Apple pioneered. It is used mainly in video and high data production environments. It tends to be a bit faster and more robust than even USB 2.0

You also have the option of turning off the “voice narration” and that’s typically how I have mine set.

I would also highly recommend it.

You might want to check with Comcast, because they may be taking you for a ride. The only type of cable you need a box to receive is digital cable. If you just want to watch regular analog standard definition cable, you do not need a cable box. Eventually all cable will go digital, but that won’t happen for a few years. In the meantime, the EyeTV works just like the “cable ready” TVs that have been sold for the past 25 years — in other words, no box needed (unless you want high definition of HBO, Showtime, etc).

I am quite familiar with computers, but not with TV interfaces. I was under the impression that I could plug my cable (from the wall) into this device, which did not work. For it to work via cable (instead of catching OTA signals via a antenna and booster) one must use a cable box. Apparently Comcast doesn’t allow boxes they don’t charge you for, so I can’t use a box without giving Comcast more of my money. The antenna and the booster add a hundred bucks (to do it right) to the cost of setting this up. I know I lack the technical knowledge to fully understand how to get the most out of this product, but Elgato needs to explain more fully just how to use it. However, they don’t even respond to emails . . .

thank you for your excellant review for the iMac 24-inch model. I am in the market for this one and have been to the Apple Store several times. I am presently a Windows 98 user.
Concerning playing the DVD , they gave me an earful , which I really don�t understand. It goes like this.
I have a couple of European DVD�s and I am being told I can only play them 5 x on this system and than the system will set the final setting and I will be unable to play American DVD�s. I just don�t get it. When I paid for DVD�s either in Europe or the USA , I should be able to play them at all times.

Since I am a layman here, can you please put some light on this in plain English. I would very much appreciate hearing from you, thank you for your time. with kind regards, Manfred H. Braig

1. There is a PDF version of the book available from Amazon. In fact, the PDF version came out before the print version, and has always been available for purchase for a cheaper price.

2. You should mention the book’s supporting web site (osxbook.com), which has a ton of extra bonus material that’s not in the book.

3. Relating to your point about the EFI coverage not being as much as you would want, osxbook.com makes up for that in the bonus material section.
